Guided Reading

Through guided reading, students are better able to practice specific strategies with the teacher's support. This leads to better independent reading practices.   Students' individual reading levels and abilities are assessed throughout the year. Students work with a small group of children who use similar reading skills and strategies and are able to read similar levels of text with support.

There are various indicators of student reading level we use.  You will find Fountas & Pinnell letters on guided reading books and lexile levels on SRI book lists that come home.  Note that each reader is unique and begins, develops, and advances at their own pace and we try to accommodate that through guided reading.
